11th moon [Whatever, it's 4th wall time]

[So. Cecil woke up thanks to a strange flash of light, only to find an unknown Pokémon in his room.  How did he react? Why, by inviting it to a picnic and making as many sandwiches as he could, of course!

Well, actually he blinked, froze, stared, almost shouted, decided against it, reached for his sword, remembered he didn't have his sword, cursed his lack of a sword, realized the monster was still there, stared some more, asked if said monster was hoping to eat him, felt quite relieved when it shook its head, stood up, looked outside, saw all the strange people and Pokémon in the street, decided he was hallucinating, woke his Pokémon up, got dressed, smiled, and finally decided to invite the amused Pokémon to a picnic. But who cares about the details?]

And here we were, wondering what would happen this month. At least the colors are not eye-searing, this time. Would you like another ham and lettuce sandwich, Miss Cresselia?

You cannot defeat them through swordfighting? [Glances curiously at the ball.] What's your Eido- Pokémon like?

Even if we could legally do so, the lack of weapons in this world would be a problem. My sword disappeared when I arrived. [He smiles proudly.] Rosie, Avenger, Esuna, Flare! Please come say hello to Kain!

[Hopefully Kain doesn't mind being stared at by a pink fairy, a haunted doll, a giant butterfly and a fire-breathing dog. They're friendly, promise.]

I can't imagine a world without weapons... [But the upset from that prospect is swept away by the weirdness of the creatures staring at him.] They're... so unlike the Eidolons of our world... Fascinating.

Most of them are rather small and more cute than impressive. But two of my friends have flying water dragons that appear to be this world's equivalent of Leviathan. And then there are those metallic birds with wings made of blades. I've not found one in the wild, sadly.

She would. And I suspect that if everyone back home knew about this, I would receive quite a few requests for pets. I don't suppose you want a rock snake, or even a dragon?

[Deep down, some part of Kain is inwardly gleeful at the prospect. Very deep down.] A dragon would be a worthy companion for me.

[He starts leafing through the handbook.] According to this, Dratini, Dragonair, Dragonite and Kingdra are Dragon-types. The first three are a single family, and Kingdra evolves from the Water-types Horsea and Seadra. Also, Pokémon such as Charizard and Gyarados look like dragons, but are not Dragon-type. Which one interests you the most? [He shows Kain the handbook.]

[Kain studies it a moment, before reaching a decision.] The Dragonite interests me. How does one find a specific variety like that?

On a normal day, we would have to find someone willing to breed one of its family for an egg, hatch the egg, and then raise it for a few weeks. But with all these Pokémon appearing everywhere, we should be able to find a wild Dragonite somewhere. The local dragons hate the cold, so we should look around warm places.

[Nods resolutely.] Then let's venture to one of these warm places. It's a challenge I'm willing to take.

Alright. Let's start looking- [What a friendly-looking Dragonite, eating leaves a bit further away!] -right behind you. Well, that was easier than I thought it would be.

[Kain turns and notices it, giving it a curious stare.] Then I must fight it to turn it to my side? Is that right?

Well, you can try asking it first. But if it doesn't work, it will take a fight. [Cecil's whole team comes closer, ready to help.]

[Kain approaches and assumes a semi-defensive pose, not threatening, but ready to spring to action if needed. He's comfortable around dragons, even though this one is a very different variety than he's used to. And it's giving him a curious stare now.]

So you're a Dragonite? I wonder if you'd do me the honor of an... alliance.

[The Dragonite looks at Kain, as if judging his personality. After a few seconds, it comes closer and pokes him with its nose twice before looking at him curiously. Not a refusal, but not an immediate acceptance either. Explain more, young man.]

I've never had an Eidolon before... but I would like to ask you to join me. I'm a dragoon, and... I've always had an affinity for your kind.

[Kain holds out a hand to lightly touch the Dragonite.]

I'm called Kain. Kain Highwind.

[The Dragonite stares. And stares. And stares some more. And stares even more before finally extending a paw. Handshake?]

[Kain seems to relax more, and even looks about as content as Kain ever gets, as he extends his hand to shake that of the Dragonite.]

I thank you for that, and I look forward to seeing what you're capable of.

It looks like you made a new friend. He -she?- must have felt your strength and determination.

[Meanwhile, the Dragonite of unknown gender grabs a few more leaves, before sitting down near Kain.]

Do you think so...? I'm glad to hear of that. I thought I might get along well with a dragon-ish sort... [Kain holds out a hand to pet his new Dragonite friend.] This world you're in is truly fascinating, if such creatures are common.

It's quite interesting, really. Their whole economy is based around Pokémon and their trainers. Then again, if back home I could catch an army of helpful creatures simply by taking a walk, I might be tempted to do so. Regulating everything must prevent most cases of bright young people with plans for world domination.

[Kain nods thoughtfully as he listens to that and continues to bond with his new buddy.] It's... very different from our own. But in ways, I can see how it'd be a worthy challenge, training with them.

All Pokémon have their own specialties and their own elemental weaknesses. Learning to compensate for them takes some work. None of my Pokémon were advantaged against the first Gym Leader, so I had to play around with status ailments. [He laughs.] Luckily, Dragonite has few natural weaknesses. Ice-types and other Dragon-types, I think.

[Kain nods, understanding the basic idea of it well enough.] For the time that I'm visiting this place... I'll have to see what my new companion is capable of.
