11th moon [Whatever, it's 4th wall time]

[So. Cecil woke up thanks to a strange flash of light, only to find an unknown Pokémon in his room.  How did he react? Why, by inviting it to a picnic and making as many sandwiches as he could, of course!

Well, actually he blinked, froze, stared, almost shouted, decided against it, reached for his sword, remembered he didn't have his sword, cursed his lack of a sword, realized the monster was still there, stared some more, asked if said monster was hoping to eat him, felt quite relieved when it shook its head, stood up, looked outside, saw all the strange people and Pokémon in the street, decided he was hallucinating, woke his Pokémon up, got dressed, smiled, and finally decided to invite the amused Pokémon to a picnic. But who cares about the details?]

And here we were, wondering what would happen this month. At least the colors are not eye-searing, this time. Would you like another ham and lettuce sandwich, Miss Cresselia?

[One shake! Two shakes! Three shakes! Aaaaaaaaand no more shaking. Congratulations! Kain has caught his second Pokémon!]

[Kain looks pleased at the success, as he goes to take that ball.]

[Cecil smiles a bit fondly, a bit sadly.]

We should find you a Chansey, then. Their eggs are a tasty, self-replenishing source of food, and they possess healing abilities. It would be reassuring to know that you have access to that kind of help.

Are they? That could be useful... [Pauses a moment.] Are you really that concerned?

They also tend to be motherly types. You would be in good hands.

...I know how your journey starts. I know how your journey ends. But the years in between? Nothing. I don't know if the winters were harsh, if the monsters were numerous... I cannot help but worry, I guess.

[Kain doesn't want to know more beyond that, since "years" sounds bad enough to him.]

You need not worry about me. I'm capable of making it through the most difficult challenges.

But... still... I won't say no at having one more defense.

I know. That's a rather useful quality for a soldier, it turns out.

Good. Let's look around for a Chansey, then. They will be easy to recognize; they are pink, three feet tall, and they always hold eggs.

[Kain nods resolutely.] I'm ready.

Most Pokémon live in the tall grass. We should start with the patches near the exit.

[Luckily and strangely, said exit is not too far away. The moment they leave the cave, Cecil starts looking around for the nearest patch of grass.]

Ah, there is one right over there. Watch out for the poisonous snakes.

I'll do that. Will the ones I have... be ready to fight already if needed?

[Or are those balls like pitching a tent somewhere and being healed?]

Sadly, no. The Pokéballs do not heal injuries, and thus your new partner won't be able to help. However, this world has its own Potions; I should have more than enough to heal Dragonite's injuries. And if it comes down to it, my team will be more than happy to help you.

Right. Then I'll call him forth to be healed... and then we'll attack.

[He eyes the area for a moment and then calls forth the Dragonite so that he ca prepare.]

[Cecil takes a few Potions from his bag and starts applying them to the Dragonite's wound. But after a few seconds, he stops and calls Esuna over.]

Esuna, please look for a Chansey from the air. Report to Kain if you find one.

[Esuna nods and flies up, her eyes fixed on the patches of grass. If there's a Chansey around, she'll find it.]

[Kain looks satisfied that the Dragonite is healed up.]

Are there particular weaknesses I should look for?

[Though he'll soon find out by trial and error anyway.]

Chansey is a Normal-type Pokémon, so its weakness would be the Fighting-type. However, it is completely immune to Ghost attacks. But it doubt Dragonite would have either of those.

[Already, Esuna is coming back, trilling excitedly. Cecil listens to her cries for a few minutes.]

It appears a Chansey is snacking on berries further south. Alone, with no hiding places or ledges around. A surprise attack would be impossible.

Hm... Then we'll try a few ideas and see what happens... and it sounds as if we'll just have to go right into the attack.

[There's not always time to catch an enemy unaware in his experience anyway. Kain looks to the Dragonite to be sure he's ready, before he starts them off in the direction Esuna had indicated.]

I've never seen a Chansey fight. I hope they have no Ice attacks.

[And there's the Chansey, nibbling on a tasty, juicy berry. She doesn't pay any attention to the newcomers. Those berries are that delicious.]

[Looks like they may be in luck... Kain looks to the Dragonite.]

See what a water-based attack will do.

[The Dragonite starts off by turning Water Pulse upon the Chansey.]

[When Dragonite throws that attack, Chansey finally looks up, sees it coming, and... neatly side-steps it, before going back to her berry. She doesn't so much as look to see who her adversary is.

Should Kain wish to turn around, the look on Cecil's face is particularly amusing right now.]

[Kain is surprised, and he does turn after a moment.]

...What is it?

...You attacked that Chansey. With a gigantic dragon. And not only did she dodge, but she went back to her lunch as if nothing had happened? [What kind of Pokémon turns its back on a seven-feet-tall dragon?] ...That Chansey appears to lack any survival instincts. Would you like to find another one?

[Cecil is not trusting that Chansey with his best friend's safety, thank you very much. But while they're busy talking, the Chansey turns around and, and a few seconds, offers one of her berries to Dragonite.]

[...this is a good point. Kain certainly wouldn't want anyone in his party who won't put up a fight ignoring spoony bards.]

Let's go try another, then...

[He urges the Dragonite along, so they can go after a more promising target.]

[The Chansey does not appreciate being considered unworthy, thank you very much. And she shows it by stepping in front of them and glaring, her lunch forgotten.]

[Kain, who'd started to turn away, returns his attention to the Chansey.]

...Hm? Are you willing now to put up a fight?

Seychan chansey.

[The Chansey does not attack. But she also does not move aside. If anything, she glares at them harder than before. Perhaps she wants an apology?]
