11th moon [Whatever, it's 4th wall time]

[So. Cecil woke up thanks to a strange flash of light, only to find an unknown Pokémon in his room.  How did he react? Why, by inviting it to a picnic and making as many sandwiches as he could, of course!

Well, actually he blinked, froze, stared, almost shouted, decided against it, reached for his sword, remembered he didn't have his sword, cursed his lack of a sword, realized the monster was still there, stared some more, asked if said monster was hoping to eat him, felt quite relieved when it shook its head, stood up, looked outside, saw all the strange people and Pokémon in the street, decided he was hallucinating, woke his Pokémon up, got dressed, smiled, and finally decided to invite the amused Pokémon to a picnic. But who cares about the details?]

And here we were, wondering what would happen this month. At least the colors are not eye-searing, this time. Would you like another ham and lettuce sandwich, Miss Cresselia?

[Kain nods in understanding and then glances it over to get a feel for it. At least he's well used to abrupt planning in a combat situation. Even if he's no summoner, he gets the basic idea.]

Come on, Dragonite - [who will need a name soon enough] - Let's see what you can do.

[Hopefully they're both ready, because those roars are very close now. As a matter of fact, beyond the next corner they'll find a group of three Onix... accompanied by a Steelix. A very, very big Steelix.]

A Steel-type? I don't know its weaknesses, I'm afraid. You'll have to try different elements.

All right. We'll see what we can do... You're ready? [The last is addressed to the Dragonite, who seems eager and ready to go. Kain gives him a satisfied look.] And an elemental attack it'll be... Flamethrower!

[The Dragonite goes right to it, unleashing a burst of flame at the opponents..]

[The fire causes some damage, but the Onix trio seems barely affected. However, the Steelix lets out a cry of pain before it attempts to slam into its opponent with one of its spikes. The Onix follow its lead with tackles aimed at Dragonite's left side.]

[Kain makes a mental note on the reactions he's just seen, while the Dragonite yelps from the attack, grazed some from the spikes and reeling from the attack to its side.] Try an Ice Beam! Freeze them! [The Dragonite blasts Ice out next.]

[The ice attack greatly unsettles the Onix, stopping them in their tracks as they roar their pain. It also hits the Steelix, whose tail is now almost completely frozen to the rock. But even with its mobility impaired, it is a dangerous opponent, and it proves it by unleashing a sort of breath attack at its opponent.]

Kain, look out! That's a Dragon-type attack!

Move back! Defend yourself! [The Dragonite attempts that, but still takes a great deal of damage from the breath attack, growling painfully. Kain is determined now, though, to keep trying...] ...Water Pulse!

[The Water Pulse hits Steelix directly, and between the elemental advantage and its previous injuries, it is enough to knock it out cold. However, the three Onix have somewhat recovered and are now furious. With the last of their strength, they try an ultimate group attack.]

[It doesn't look so good for the poor Dragonite, who is really drained after that attack. But still, Kain isn't giving up and he's pleased to see the Pokémon standing its ground even then. Looks like they have the same type of stubbornness.] Ice them again! [The Dragonite goes right to it.]

[It seems that was truly the last of their strength; the moment the ice attack hits them, the trio falls to the ground, unconscious. Once he is certain they will not raise their head again, Cecil comes closer.]

Good work. They won't be able to fight back for some time. Would you like to catch one? I have a few extra balls with me.

[Kain smirks a little, as always pleased at any kind of victory. He congratulates the Dragonite, and then looks at Cecil, these Eidolons are rather fascinating.] I could capture one? Then... by all means.

[Cecil reaches inside his bag and takes out three Pokéballs. He gives the first to Kain.]

You merely need to throw the ball at whichever monster you would like to catch. It will somehow be caught within, and the ball will shake. If it stops shaking, the Pokémon is yours. If it gets out, you need to use another ball until it works.

[Kain take the ball in hand and studies the creatures. It doesn't seem too complicated, or so he hopes.]

Let's see what happens...

[He decides on which one he want to try, and throws the ball. He waits patiently as the ball shakes...]

[One shake! Two shakes! Three shakes! Aaaaaaaaand no more shaking. Congratulations! Kain has caught his second Pokémon!]

You are now the proud owner of a gigantic rock snake. Excellent when climbing mountains, I'm told.

[Kain looks pleased at the success, as he goes to take that ball.]

Then I'm sure that will be useful for me.

[Cecil smiles a bit fondly, a bit sadly.]

We should find you a Chansey, then. Their eggs are a tasty, self-replenishing source of food, and they possess healing abilities. It would be reassuring to know that you have access to that kind of help.

Are they? That could be useful... [Pauses a moment.] Are you really that concerned?

They also tend to be motherly types. You would be in good hands.

...I know how your journey starts. I know how your journey ends. But the years in between? Nothing. I don't know if the winters were harsh, if the monsters were numerous... I cannot help but worry, I guess.

[Kain doesn't want to know more beyond that, since "years" sounds bad enough to him.]

You need not worry about me. I'm capable of making it through the most difficult challenges.

But... still... I won't say no at having one more defense.

I know. That's a rather useful quality for a soldier, it turns out.

Good. Let's look around for a Chansey, then. They will be easy to recognize; they are pink, three feet tall, and they always hold eggs.

[Kain nods resolutely.] I'm ready.

Most Pokémon live in the tall grass. We should start with the patches near the exit.

[Luckily and strangely, said exit is not too far away. The moment they leave the cave, Cecil starts looking around for the nearest patch of grass.]

Ah, there is one right over there. Watch out for the poisonous snakes.

I'll do that. Will the ones I have... be ready to fight already if needed?

[Or are those balls like pitching a tent somewhere and being healed?]

Sadly, no. The Pokéballs do not heal injuries, and thus your new partner won't be able to help. However, this world has its own Potions; I should have more than enough to heal Dragonite's injuries. And if it comes down to it, my team will be more than happy to help you.

Right. Then I'll call him forth to be healed... and then we'll attack.

[He eyes the area for a moment and then calls forth the Dragonite so that he ca prepare.]
