Finding a Fire-type Gym so close to a frozen cavern was unexpected, but they seem to be doing well enough.

[Cecil looks cheerful, proud and covered by a thin layer of frost. That's what happens when the whole battle is spent under Rain Dance and said frozen cavern is visited right after, but he doesn't mind.]

Two more badges to earn by August 29. Perhaps having sixteen has more of an effect than having only Johto's eight; we'll know soon enough

...Have you ever seen anyone other than us foreigners challenge a Gym leader?

[Blinks and shakes his head, eyes narrowing.]

Actually... no. Though it doesn't mean they don't. Some of the stronger trainers on the roads must have, else how did they get where they are?

Stonger trainers stay where the wild Pokémon are also stronger. It could mean they all stay close to home.

Perhaps, but if the starting Mom's any indication, I'm guessing everyone gets kicked out of the house while they're young and sent to wander.

Perhaps they are kinder to their true children? Or perhaps they are allowed to return later...

I doubt it. There are lot of kids on these roads who seem to rely more on their pokemon than anything else.

...Can you imagine the mortality rate if any of us could be killed?

Pokémon are helpful, but without proper weapons...

I'm sure that law wouldn't be enforced if death was a real danger for all the trainers.

Officer Jenny doesn't seem that bad. The only reason they enforce it now is so people like Team Rocket don't take out crowbars and start smacking pokemon in the face.

Is it, truly? I've never seen laws stop determined criminals, after all. I've no doubt there are a few crowbar-wielding Rockets out there.

Perhaps, but at least it shows that they are breaking the laws which makes them easier to spot and catch as well.

You'D think the mere act of attacking a Pokémon directly would suffice.

That would be a lot harder to catch in the act. A weapon is always carried, a criminal isn't always going to be in the direct moment of abusing pokemon.

Weapons can be hidden. They can also be summoned, but at least that's not an option here.

Not that many weapons can be hidden. Or at least most in my world are far too long.

Between knives, rods, claws, whips and ninja implements, most people from my world would manage. Swords, spears, bows, staves, axes and hammers would be trickier, however.

I don't know... Whips would be hard to conceal and most of the rest are noticeable under clothes.

Not under robes, at least. ...Then again, few mages need so many weapons. I'd also not underestimate a ninja's ability to hide throwing stars.

All right, but if a ninja is wandering around using their weapons on pokemon, I'm not sure the officers would be able to catch them attacking the pokemon either, but if they did they could still at least charge them with even having the illegal weapon in the first place.

...Unless they manage to hide the throwing stars, but I imagine that'd be rather painful.

I guess that might count as its own punishment.

There's also a chance the blood would alert the officers even then.
