The route northwest of Viridian is closed. Trainers are currently not allowed to cross it, not even to see if the Elite Four is truly waiting beyond.

That leaves route 26 to the south and route 28 to the west. If anyone knows where they lead, I'd appreciate any information. ...Or perhaps I should go back and-

Not in this case. These four routes meet at some sort of building surrounded by rocks, and each path is guarded.

Did they at least say why you couldn't go past? ...Maybe you could trick 'em to leave their posts.

Not a single word of it. If I could find a way to distract them all... Then again, I doubt the officers would appreciate that.

Even they can't be like those English guards... What's the worst that could happen, if you really do distract them?

Oh, seriously? I wonder if there's a secret technique that your Pokemon has to learn to cross over it.

It's less a matter of knowing the right technique and more of finding a way to convince the guard, truly.

You could always say that you're a family member of one of the Elite Four!

Sadly, I don't think I know anything about route 26 and 28.

Nothing at all? Could that mean that they are considered part of Johto, rather than Kanto?

Possibly. Or it could be one of the things different from what I know about Kanto.

Yet with both of these, we reach Johto's '29'. That means they must have been traced before most of Johto.

Yeah. Or maybe the government at the time formalised a type of naming system? Like...it used to have a different name before "29"?

I doubt it. The road itself appears to be surrounded by extremely tall rocks, and the only gate I can see is watched by a guard that is far from helpful.

Can't just distract the guards?

The Elite Four are said to be amongst the most powerful trainers in this world, stronger than even the most experienced Gym leaders. Defeating them is necessary to battle the official champion.

Must be something important if they're going through all that trouble of protecting it.

Though, I don't see how someone that powerful wouldn't be able to defend for themselves.

It seems more a matter of proving our worth. They could hardly allow newcomers to go up against the strongest trainers with nothing more than their newly obtained starters, could they?
