Finding a Fire-type Gym so close to a frozen cavern was unexpected, but they seem to be doing well enough.

[Cecil looks cheerful, proud and covered by a thin layer of frost. That's what happens when the whole battle is spent under Rain Dance and said frozen cavern is visited right after, but he doesn't mind.]

Two more badges to earn by August 29. Perhaps having sixteen has more of an effect than having only Johto's eight; we'll know soon enough

Well sure. Being honorable and strong isn't the same thing as winning. There's a reason most of those old warrior-cultures didn't really survive to modern day.

That's one aspect our worlds do not have in common; Fabul and Eblan both have strong warrior-cultures, and they also are flourishing kingdoms.

We've still got some where I come from. The ones that managed to actually adapt to advancing technology, mostly.

...They did adapt to everything warfare has to offer but airship strikes. Hopefully it'll not change their traditions too much.

Sounds like they did better than most, then. For the most part we've just got civilian armies where I come from.

[Actually, he supposes you could easily make the argument that armies and similar forces ARE their own little subcultures, but he's not going to be that pedantic. It's not really the same thing.]

Civillian armies are more than adequate, as long as they are well-trained. Is it particularly valorised as a profession?

[Though he's not sure Baron counts as having a civillian army, considering all of their traditions.]

In that case, having motivated, appreciated and well-equiped soldiers should compensate handily for the slightly different mindset.
