19th moon [video/action]

[The view of route 31 is nice enough. The sun is peeking between the clouds and shining upon the snow, which looks pure and untouched... Except for a small section where a Dratini is attacking every wild Pokémon he sees while a Feebas cheers him on. Luckily, their trainer is feeling too nostalgic to scold them.]

The last Pokémon I caught for myself was Esuna, nearly a month before I first reached this city. It happened not too far from the cave, in fact... But since then, my team has grown through eggs and gifts exclusively. Is it the same for anyone else?

[The camera is still pointing at route 31, but it turns a little toward the south, toward the city that lies beyond route 30.]

I'll leave for Cherrgrove tonight. I'll reach it soon, I promise.

[And the camera turns back to the training Dratini, until the feed times out.]

She was the one who upset Rise? ...Is she still in one piece? Touching a young lady's hair can have rather violent consequences.

That's the one. And...yeah, she's surprisingly still in one piece. If she weren't a pokemon, though, I'd probably be more worried for her.

They do tend to be extremely resilient. In five months, none of mine have received grievous injuries, no matter how much they battled.

Still...best not push them too hard, yeah? It isn't fair if they're the only ones doing all the work around here. [Shoots a smile at his off-screen Riolu]

Of course not. I make certain to treat them the same way I would treat my son: not too harshly, but not too softly either. I'd not want them to become spoiled and selfish.

Your son? [His lips quirk] I guess the pokemon sort of are like children. [Pause] Some of them, at least.

Still at home, sadly. He would love this world. [He laughs a little.] Rosie acts more like a mother than a daughter, when it comes down to it. Unless you count her sibling rivalry with Avenger.

He's safe at home, at least. [He grins in reply] Will and Cius are the only ones who act like children--my Growlithe and Riolu. I swear my Rapidash has been mothering me, though.

At least Rapidashes are tall and adult-like. Being mothered by a thirty centimeter tall pink star is a strange experience. But from what I can tell, all Growlithes have a childish side.

A tall...pink star? I don't think I've seen a pokemon like that around.

You've not seen one before? Rosie, please come here for a few moments! [There is now a sweet little Clefairy staring at Merlin through the Pokégear.] She was somewhat more star-like before she evolved, but her general appearance is unchanged.

Oh, I haven't seen one of those around before. [Smiles at the Clefairy brightly] Hello!

I think I might have seen one on the Pokégear once before, but that's all. They must be rather rare. [Rosie waves back cheerfully. Hi, nice trainer!]

Must be! [Grinnnn] Where did you find this one?

I received her in New Bark Town. She was the one who ended up showing me how to use the Pokégear.

She's your starter? She must be loads smarter than I am--I haven't even worked out the Gear myself.

She picks up human concepts quite quickly. The first few weeks, she would take care of our weekly shopping while I worked. But even she cannot help me do more than video posts. Those tiny letters are not very adapted to Pokémon paws.

Wow. [Have an impressed look, Rosie] You've been really helpful, haven't you? That's great!

[Rosie puffs up proudly, while Cecil laughs softly.]

She has her downsides as well. She has a strong competitive streak, she's impulsively romantic...

[But Merlin will never find out Rosie's other faults, as she pinches her trainer to make him shut up.]

Being romantic isn't a bad thing. [He laughs] I don't think she appreciates you listing her bad qualities for me.

The key word here is impulsively. She once ran off with my wallet to buy her sweetheart a Christmas present. And she has no room to be upset, considering she loves talking about Avenger's faults.

She did? That's really sweet of her--erm. Not that stealing your wallet was a good thing, I mean.

It was sweet. And I knew she'd not try to buy the whole store, so I did not mind that much.
