[Many objects are piling up in front of the Pokégear: food reserves, drinks, Potions of all kinds, enough Ice Heals to last a month, Pokéballs... Could someone be insane enough to brave the tempest?]

Squall, Suzuki, I'm leaving for Goldenrod; I need to buy a few items. Would you like me to bring you back anything? Oh, and Squall, a young lady was looking for you.

[Rosie appears, bearing a few Escape Ropes. She dumps them next to the pile before looking around for gloves.]

I'll try to defeat the Gym leader during my stay. Light, Firion, Bartz, Zidane, Miss Lenna, we could meet up at the Sudowoodo after that.

[But already he's paying more attention to his supplies than to his Pokégear. Avenger sighs and turns it off.]

I do need to buy quite a few items. Besides, if I can win against the Gym leader, our future travels will be simplified.

[Also, he wants to see if he can catch any Pokémon for gifts on the way. But that's a secret~]

Only items? [She can't help tease him a bit.] It would be helpful to have another person to move the Sudowoodo out of the way even for a little while.

[It will be a total mystery then.]

Fine, I admit it. It was always my dream to gamble away my savings in a casino. [He laughs.] With the way the snow is piling up, anything that can buy some time is worth trying. Azalea would still be far away, but forests are easier to navigate than caves.

[Cue in the surprise look!] Huh? Really?

That's true. I would rather be in a forest than cave during a snow storm any day. I don't think even Mosey would last long if we were in a cave.

[He laughs more.] I'm not that irresponsible, I promise. But I heard there were prizes, and if the odds seem good I might try it out once.

Mosey? What is its type? Something strong against Rock and Ground?

[She'll giggle a bit.] Oh, you're terrible! I almost believed it too. What sort of prizes did you see at the casino?

Mosey is my Houndoom...well, he technically belongs to Cloud, but I am looking after him. He is a fire and dark type, I believe.

I don't know what sorts there are, but I know you need a good winning streak to get them.

Cloud's...? I guess he never came to get it back, even when he reappeared, then. Is it a good type combination?

Only someone with a lot of luck would enjoy games like that.

No, he didn't, but....he did got to meet Mosey, again, even if it was a video meeting. [She nods her head.] A really good combination. He knows all types of fire and dark moves. Also, a really loyal and strong pokemon too. I am really happy to have him in my team. [Mosey will be giving Aerith a lick on her cheek. Excuse him, Cecil. It is kissy Aerith time.]

Well, this blizzard could be considered bad luck. Which means there must be good luck building up somewhere.

Perhaps they'll manage to meet in person next time. [He smiles.] He does look quite impressive and affectionate. He must be quite helpful during your travels.

I hope you're right, Cecil. At the rate this is going, I really hope Christmas won't get stuck in a middle of a snow storm like this one. Who knows how much cleaning up we'll have to do?

Yeah. I really am hoping for Mosey and Cloud to find each other again. I can tell he misses him. [She will pet Mosey while the pokemon sits down happily.] He is! He's been making our camp very warm by melting the snow around us and building a fire, too. Mosey has been taking care of us ever since he joined my team. I'm really greatful to have him with me.

If the snow keeps falling like this, we'll have to dig children out of it. It piles up quickly.

That's good. Moving around without a Fire-type would be ill-advised at the moment. I know I would not dare leave Ecruteak if it were not for Flare's presence. It's a shame they cannot help against the wind, though.

[She giggles a bit.] We just might. I think the snow can easily reach up to my chest now.

That's true. I wouldn't have been able to leave calmly if I didn't have him with me. Whenever I notice he is having a hard time, I return him into my pokeball for a little while. So far, Mosey and Maria have been able to stand the cold a little more.

That makes sense. Mosey is a Fire-type, and Maria has fur, does she not? Their bodies are more adapted to the cold than, say, Rosie's or Esuna's.

Yes, Maria has fur.

Actually, I left Blissey and Ledian back at Goldenrod City because Blissey doesn't really have fur while Ledian is a bug type. Bug and snow isn't a good mix, so I thought they would be happier back at the Inn. Mosey and Maria are the only pokemon I have with me.

At the Inn? Did you leave them with someone, or did you rent a room in advance and asked them to stay there?

No, they are staying at the two rooms I have reserved. [Then she smiles a bit nervously.] Don't worry, I left them a month worth of food, water, money, and a walkie talkie in case an emergency. Blissey can take care of herself and Ledian, so I left her in charge. So far, she's been doing well by helping all of my friends at Goldenrod, so I have faith they will be okay until I get back.

They both are quite reliable. They'd be more likely to survive a month alone than most Pokémon I know.

I made sure to teach them everything about surviving on their own if anything happened to me. I know pokemon who are hopeless without their trainer, so I made sure to train them to use their heads. It would be a shame if they lost their ability to survive on their own.

Now, Aerith, let's be fair. I have no doubt you also know trainers who would be completely hopeless without their Pokémon. The poor Pokémon might not have the best examples to follow.

That's also true! I know I wouldn't be able to survive Johto without the help of my pokemon. Maybe everything depends mostly on the circumstances and the pokemon's personality too. I know not every pokemon is like their trainers or lose their instincts unpurpose either.

Then again, we don't know where the starter Pokémon come from. If they were bred in captivity, they would not have any instincts to speak of. Of course, wild Pokémon have no excuse, other than bad influences.

You know, I've always did wonder where our starters came from because I don't remember anyone handing Chansey to me. I woke up with her by my side when I arrived to Johto. Hmmm, I really do wonder if our starters have ever been wild or bred?

The sheer number of starters given away implies that they have a stable source, especially for those we have not yet found in the wild. The Pidgey might come from route 29, but I've never seen any of Rosie's relatives.

Eevees and Dratinis are the types of pokemon that are unavailable in the wild, so you're right about that. The only Chanseys and Blisseys I've seen are at the Pokemon Centers working along with the Nurse Joy. I'm sure we'll find a route, cave, forest, or town where our starters are usually found if we keep moving forward.

[He nods.] That's what happened with the Growlithes. I'd only seen them with trainers; as a matter of fact, I'd never seen a wild Fire-type. But then I ended up near Ecruteak, and there were Growlithes and Vulpix everywhere.
