...After many hours of pondering, I have come to the conclusion that my Pokémon wish to express their displeasure at being excluded from the New Year's festivities.

[He likely got that impression from the large pile of eggs that be seen behind him. The structure looks horrifyingly unstable, and the young shiny Vulpix trying to use it as her playground does not help.]

But they've generously done so in a manner that benefits you all. The eggs cost P1000 each, barring the Caterpies and Magikarps which are half that price. All are likely to hatch knowing at least one or two additional attacks, as Gogo's efforts to court Firaga have left it too busy to participate. I offer swift deliveries, and I can add a handmade egg pillow to any order if you request it. Please do not hesitate to buy as many eggs as you can hold.

[No, seriously, don't hesitate at all.]

Well...I've only been here a few days, yeah.

I can tell. Let me warn you now: everything you can possibly train hatches from eggs. The birds, the cats, the flowers, the rocks, the ghosts, the piles of toxic sludge. And never ask about the species of the second parent, unless you are ready to receive disturbing answers. Trying to understand the reproductive cycle of Pokémon will only lead to madness.

[Better to learn those harsh truths now, before the bird-fathered fish and the lion-fathered snakes come up.]

[By the time Cecil reaches flowers and rocks, Kaneki's expression shifts from bewildered to slightly concerned and horrified.]

That's...really strange.

This whole world can be, at times. The laws that govern breeding make no sense, the weather is unstable, it's had shark tornadoes and days of nightmare fog and reanimated fossil attacks... And yet it's truly a beautiful, usually peaceful land, somehow.

[For a guy talking about baby sludge and sharknadoes, he sounds surprisingly fond.]

[Kaneki echoes, his brows knitting together a bit. None of that sounds in any way peaceful, but the way he says that makes it seem believable somehow.]

...I'd still return home in a heartbeat if given half a chance. But I love it. This land allowed me to meet old friends again, after nearly twenty years.

[Old friends...so he's not the only one here with people he knows. At least to some degree.

And as for him, well. It's...arguably better for him to be here for now, if he wants to be completely honest with himself.]

I see. I guess that has to be nice for anyone.

Never be sorry for asking questions, whether they concern this world or those who currently live in it. There is much to learn about this land, and we've not spent years here only to let newcomers flounder without help.

[Especially nice young men who have not yet had their sanity and common sense broken.]

[Not that he thinks the two he has will, since they don't really like each other at all. Still, it would be good to know for future reference.]

...That greatly depends on the Pokémon involved. Certain breeders only acquire egg clutches after weeks of careful decisions and preparations, while other trainers return home after a long day of work to find artistic egg displays in their bedrooms.

[Kaneki glances over at his own Pokemon as Cecil says that, smiling weakly.]

So just...try not to leave them alone together.

You might not have to go that far. Not all species are compatible, and there's always the issue of gender. ...Unless you have a Ditto, in which case I'm very sorry.

[And he does look very sorry, just in case the hypothetical Ditto truly exists.]

[Thankfully, both his Zangoose and Abra are female. ...of course, he only knows the Zangoose is, but he'll figure it out eventually.]

[Poor Gogo finds itself forced away from its seat by Cecil, who puts it on his lap.]

They can breed with any other Pokémon. I'd suggest not catching one, if you do not wish for eggs.

[Kaneki just stares at the little blob for a moment, trying to wrap his head around the fact that this pink goop can breed with anything.

You do not, truly. In fact, I find that those words could fit quite a few situations around here. You'd best not wonder about the origin of the meat found in stores or the biannual three-day madness, either.

[Even the Ditto nods along to that, looking almost serious.]

[He had enough to think about with the ditto thing, but you have just given him so much more, Cecil.

While he refrains from asking about the meat thing, he does seem confused enough to echo his words.]

It's somewhat difficult to explain, but for three days, twice a year, it's as if this whole world suddenly become much more crowded. Certain people find themselves owning Pokémon they've never seen before or lost in caves on the other side of the region, and memory loss is a somewhat common occurence.

Really?

[That...doesn't sound good at all.]

You say it happens twice a year. Do you know exactly when?

At the end of May and November. Its return is easy to predict, but not so easy to deal with. People find themselves lost in the Ice Cave when it ends, all too often.

[Cecil, maybe you shouldn't tell the poor newbie all that just yet.]

Geez. They make it out okay, though...right?

They do, thankfully. Especially if they know to always keep a Fire-type on their person. That greatly simplifies that particular problem.

[Okay, for future reference: get a fire type. ..Whatever that means.]
