They are both soft and warm, as I've stuffed them with Arcanine fur.

During a discussion, I mentioned to a friend that my Arcanine sheds much hair every day. He suggested that I use it somehow, and pillows were the simplest solution.

I caught them because they were interesting. The fact that they help with my project was a bonus.

I've been making candy, well specifically lollipops, for people and pokémon.

Candy? That's quite the interesting project. Was it something you practiced at home, or a new interest?

Well I already know how to cook, so making candy seem like a something I could do instead of getting a boring job.

Do you have any specialties? A specific shape or flavor?

Well I've been using berries, so it depends on that when it comes to flavors. Don't worry, the one's I make for people are made from berries people can eat.

The shape depends on who's it for. For pokémon its shaped like acorns or pokéballs. For the humans, they're shaped different pokémon I've seen so far.

Preparing and shaping the lollipops must necessitate much equipment. Can you buy it in store, or does it have to be handmade?

Well I got a lot of what I needed from the Joys, I get the sticks and molds from the pokémarts. My pokémon helped with finding berries and the cooking.

I only had a partnership with the one in Violet city. I might try to get one in Goldenrod once I get there.

Goldenrod's Department Store is the biggest by far. Your products will have greater visibility there.

Depends on the berries. Well the pokémon lollipop it kind of obvious, berry for a certain flavor. The human lollies are well it can goes from sweet, sour, tangy, bitter, or spicy in various levels. I

I got him about about a two weeks after I got to Johto. Funny thing was I was actually trying to get a rock type and ended up with the opposite.It was weird actually. Realized that after Zubats evolve to Golbats all they need was to be happy enough to evolve again.

Happiness-induced evolutions? I've had a few of those: Rosie, Leviathan, Firion... I wonder how often they manage to evolve, without trainers?

The father is an Eevee, which looks like a small brown fox, and the... mother is a Ditto, which looks somewhat like a pink Flan. Pokémon can also breed between species, to some extent.

[... Suspicious staring. Is it really? Really? Maybe it was some sort of other creature's egg, not a dragon-- it was too small, if he remembered right--- but some poor, unfortunate creature who is not furry or flanny.] Just how does that even work?

That's an excellent question, and one I sadly cannot answer. Some arrivals receive breeding material with their packs; perhaps one of them knows the answer to that question.

Not that it matters much. I've seen trainers breed their Pokémon, and breeders earn Gym badges. There is very little enforced on us here, other than the Pokémon themselves.

... Just what is here anyway? [He'll just go skim through the Trainer Handbook first.] It's not any place I've seen or heard of before.

We merely know that the region is named Johto, and that some of our fellow outworlders had knowledge of the local Pokémon prior to their arrival. No one knows which planet or world this is, and no one had visited it before.

So it's a place people know exist but have never been to before? [Weird. He's taking everything with a grain of salt, but it couldn't hurt to know he supposed.] I'm guessing no one knows why we're here either, huh?

None of the locals have given us a satisfactory answer. It appears they do not know either.

So we just ended up here without explanation. [He rubs the back of his neck at that, sighing. Well, so much for trying to find things out. This wasn't exactly what he was expecting when...] Err, right. I'm Ted, what's your name?

One of my friends arrived here three months before I did. There are many others who also arrived before me.

... Does anyone know the history of this place, at least? Maybe it could give ideas as to why we got here in the first place.

We know very little, other than Ecruteak's legends. There are ruins and historical monuments, but no records that we can access.

Ecruteak's legends?

Yes, there is one in particular...

[He starts rummaging through his belongings, and finally returns with a piece of paper.]

"Years and years ago, there were two towers in Ecruteak. But one day, the western tower was hit by lightning and burned until the rain extinguished it, killing three Pokémon. So a rainbow-colored Pokémon descended from the eastern tower and revived the three, before leaving for lands unknown."

[He puts the paper down.]

I'm merely paraphrasing, obviously. But that is the gist of it.

[Huh.] That's a pretty interesting legend. [Not one he's heard of, at least.] Did they ever figure out just what kind of pokémon they're talking about?

[He nods.]

Raikou, an Electric-type. Suicune, a Water-type. Entei, a Fire-type. The one who revived them was called Ho-oh.

Revival, in his mind, and as demonstrated in his world, usually came with vampires and zombies and creatures you don't want to mess with.] Has there been any instances where this... Ho-oh might have revived humans instead? Not just Pokémon?

I've not heard of any such cases. Then again, this is also the only mention of Ho-oh I've found. Those monks in the tower might know more, but they care little for visitors.

So the tower really exists? [Well, he supposed the legend had to begin from an existing place.]

One burned tower, to the west of Ecruteak. And one standing tower, to the east. The towers themselves are quite real.

[Okay, he'll be checking this Ecruteak one day then.] Any chance you know how far Ecruteak is from New Bark Town?

Reaching Ecruteak takes over a month by foot, unless someone opens the shortcut for you. Otherwise, you need to go through Azalea and Goldenrod first, and obtain the Goldenrod badge.

[That catches his attention immediately.] There's a shortcut?

[He nods.]

There is a Pokémon named Sudowoodo blocking the direct path between Violet and Ecruteak. It can only be displaced by someone that possesses the Plain Badge, which takes a few months of training at best.

[A few months is a lot longer than just a month. Guess that's out of the question.] Well, I suppose considering it sounds like I'm going to be here for a while, I've got all the time to get there. [Besides, not like he has anything to go back to even if he wanted to.] No one's ever tried to get that Sudowoodo out of the way?

Dozens have tried, multiple times, over many months. It always returns, or finds itself replaced by another if it was caught. The most we can do is make it move long enough to cross the road.

... Is that place supposed to be some sort of Sudowoodo paradise?

For all we know, the local soil could be a tree delicacy. No one can explain their presence there.

That could be it. Maybe someone ought to look into it, and then it would be faster to travel there.

They'd have to be careful. Sudowoodos are rather violent.

How violent are we talking about here?

Their fists are made of rock, and they enjoy using them.

I did have to walk three days to reach a completely unfamiliar city because I could not bypass it and return to my friends.

[He nods, sympathetic somehow.] It's better than getting punched by rocks, at least. [He is taking this surprisingly well for a guy who hasn't been here for even a day. It was just better not to think on it, really. Not when he's talking to people.]

I was quick to obtain the necessary badge, after that particular experience. I can only hope it will suffice if we find ourselves teleported everywhere again.

Who knows? Everyone awoke with three days missing and strange dreams, and there were stale sandwiches near me.

Everyone present in Johto at the time was affected. Everyone.

Is there no leads as to what caused it?

None. This world's secrets are closely guarded.

Is there anything here that's constant that we actually know?

Arrivals are mostly constant; departures are not. Those who depart but return lose all of their Pokémon, even if those were never found and they've kept their memories of Johto.

--Wait, what? [You can leave and come back?]

People are forced here, returned home, brought back here... Sometimes with their memories, sometimes without, always without their consent.

How does that even work? [And man, that just sounds disturbing in it's own way.]

An excellent question, but one I cannot answer, sadly.

[Another one of those unanswerable questions in this place, huh?] This place is so strange.

That it is. I've not heard anyone say that their world resembles this.

It's pretty unique. I didn't even think a lot of the things here could exist until I got here.

It's the same for me. Even the Pokégear are beyond anything my world could manage, yet they give them freely to children here.

You have to wonder just how wealthy this place has to be to be able to provide things like this for free.

Terribly so, since they can afford it without asking us to pay taxes.

Sounds too idealistic, really. If I weren't here, I wouldn't believe such a place could exist.

It does have its downsides. Criminals are very rarely caught, unless they happened to accidentally kick a Pokémon.

Thefts, assaults, attempted murders... A few months ago, a newcomer attacked all the inhabitants of New Bark Town, and he was never caught.

[He falls silent at that, looking unsure whether or not to take that seriously.

Few trainers stay near New Bark Town. Only newcomers do. By the time people returned to help, he'd already found a way to hide.

Why didn't they decide to tighten security since then? Last I checked, New Bark Town still looks pretty loosely guarded.

Perhaps they do not have the manpower to do so.

[Huh.] You think? [He doesn't sound so convinced at that.]

I'd rather think that than believe they simply do not care.

The person who attacked them? ...I don't know. It was a young man, but I've never heard his name, or whether he still lives in Johto.

There were also kidnappings, but they never involved so many people, except for one time.

There was talk of attacks and captures, two months ago. All the people involved have since reappeared, all in good health.

[Blink.] They didn't demand anything? What did they want with so many people?

Who knows? Perhaps it was merely a show of force.

You could try asking the people who were directly involved. Some of them must be willing to talk.

It is. There is a significant amount of farm land between Olivine and Ecruteak.

It sounds like a simple road to navigate. Do the local wild Pokémon use many status ailments?

A few do. There are Magnemites and Flaaffys who can paralyze.

I'll be certain to stock up on Paralyz Heals, then.

This would be much simpler if our abilities were not taken away.

[A nod] Perhaps that is so, but we all must adapt.

Compared to the Ilex Forest, a few sheep and magnets should be nothing.

[a light chuckle] That's correct. Poison is significantly worse than paralyzation, I have found.

Perhaps that is why antidotes are so inexpensive. Then again, many merchants would use that opportunity to raise the prices.

I believe the merchants here are for more interested in Pokemon health than making a profit.

Which is always a wonderful surprise, but a surprise still.

It's a reminder of how highly the residents of this world regard the Pokemon.

They do seem to have little other purpose in their lives. Of course, Pokémon themselves are also centered around humans.

It's a prime example of two different classes of species living together in near complete harmony.

That's quite the rare occurence, from my experience. The humans in my world do live in harmony with dwarves, but that is a relatively recent development.

It is, particularly on my world. Animals are generally treated kindly by humans, but they aren't nearly as revered as Pokemon are.

That might be because most animals have none of the powers even the smallest Pokémon possess. These tend to be the domain of monsters instead.

...Perhaps it was, at first. However, the locals do seem to genuinely love them. Their feelings might have changed over the centuries, until the fear was nearly forgotten.

That does seem to be the case.

Though it makes me wonder if that possible fear would have been caused merely by their potential powers, or by specific events.

Far from it. My team is high-levelled, and we were fighting from the inn's second floor. What about yourself?

From the inn's second floor? [ Well, if most of Cecil's team could use long-range attacks... ] My team and I fought in the street, protecting the pokemon center.

The centers were particularly in need of help, but I could not afford to leave the inn. I would not have been able to move all the eggs, and a friend of mine was unwell.

The resemblance would still be eerie to someone not expecting it. Such as a young man who recently found himself in a completely different world, possibly from the very middle of a fight.

This war...what happened to all of you, exactly?

We were called by the goddess Cosmos to fight against a god of discord named Chaos. Ten- fourteen- about a dozen of us, fighting to save our worlds from destruction. For some reason, we had no memories of our homes at the time, other than a few recalled moments and the adversaries Chaos sent to face us.

Sounds like this place, except a lot less mild and with a lot less memories. [ A pause. ] If you didn't remember your homes, what prompted you to fight to save them?

For many reasons. Because it was the right thing to do. Because we wished to return there and remember them. Because the world in which the fighting took place was also in danger. Because the warriors of Chaos were trying to kill us.

[A pause.]

Because my brother's life was also on the line, and I wished to save him.

[ There's a moment's hesitation before he speaks again. ]

That's no surprise. I rarely speak of him. To Iris, perhaps to Aerith once...

He was the warrior of Chaos sent to face me, at that time. Not that he cared much about that. But even they would have been destroyed, if Chaos had truly won. As he was the only person I could remember, I refused to let that happen.

He became your enemy...that must have been tough to face. Did you save him, in the end?

If anything, it was the first time he was not my enemy. We were merely on different sides.

I did. We did. He helped save himself, really. It gave me the chance to see him again, before I was brought here.

Leviathan never did, but I've seen a few trainers keep them in buckets.

They must be quite happy to have found a trainer who cares so much for their well-being.

I've not yet heard of a Ditto that does not appreciate everyone else's charms. I'm starting to believe they do not exist.

Casanova at least acted like zhe was repentant. Before I boxed hir. The entire species seems to exist merely as a blot on society, sometimes.

Yet most breeders need their help for their trade, and thus find themselves obtaining them and bringing them to cities where they can find more victims.

That is, sadly, the case. I am honestly regretting it a little now, but I don't want to release hir, you know, in case I ever need to breed more eggs.

It should be fine, as long as you keep an eye on it. ...Though a leash might be a good idea.

I've been keeping hir in my PC Box for now, but maybe I'll take it out sometime soonish... Maybe.
