[The view of route 31 is nice enough. The sun is peeking between the clouds and shining upon the snow, which looks pure and untouched... Except for a small section where a Dratini is attacking every wild Pokémon he sees while a Feebas cheers him on. Luckily, their trainer is feeling too nostalgic to scold them.]

The last Pokémon I caught for myself was Esuna, nearly a month before I first reached this city. It happened not too far from the cave, in fact... But since then, my team has grown through eggs and gifts exclusively. Is it the same for anyone else?

[The camera is still pointing at route 31, but it turns a little toward the south, toward the city that lies beyond route 30.]

I'll leave for Cherrgrove tonight. I'll reach it soon, I promise.

[And the camera turns back to the training Dratini, until the feed times out.]

I've yet to catch one myself, I confess. I need to, but-- I just haven't run into any that my team seems to agree on, yet, and I don't want to add someone they don't get along with.

I first caught a Pokémon because he did not get along well with Rosie, actually. The two of them were glaring at each other and starting up a staring competition, so I decided to let them argue as often as they wanted. [He laughs softly.] It took me... three weeks, I believe?

I'll have to catch my own soon-- but I've been here two months, now... It's more than time. I'm going to get a water Pokemon of some sort, which I'm sure will displease Karen to no end.

You are in luck; most of the routes and ponds have Water-types. The Magikarps are the most common, their attacks are limited until they evolve.

[there's a pause as he references his Pokedex to look up the Magikarps, then nods]

I don't mind trying to train them, but something else might be preferable. I'll see what I can find.

I think the road between Violet and Cherrygrove has Poliwags, and there are Woopers on the way to Azalea. Those would the closest, I believe.

I'll keep an eye out for them. I've been training my team some, so I may run into something.

Do be careful; some of them are surprisingly strong, compared to their neighbors. Cherrygrove's beach has starfish that are twenty levels higher that everything else there.

[Subaru looks distinctly surprised by that.]

I'm glad you warned me. I wouldn't have wanted to stumble across that unaware. [he's a little overprotective of his Pokemon.]

Luckily, they tend to be hard to find. But knowing about them can never hurt.

It's better to stay informed, yes. It looks like I'll just be trying my luck near Violet.

I hope you'll find a good ally, one that will get along well with your whole team. Having a united group is always nicer.

Mm. I'll have to try to find one that they get along with-- although I don't imagine Karen will be happy with anyone, at first.

She has a strong personality, then?

Very. I think it might be a trait with fire-types.

Flare tends to be overly active and excited while his mother is much calmer. Perhaps it also depends on species. What is Karen's?

Karen is a Charmander.

Those little lizards with flames at the end of their tails? I've not been in contact with enough of them to know if they tend to share the same temperament.

Karen is... fiery. [Subaru laughs a little.] I think she'll get calmer as she gets older, but right now she's easily excited and forgets herself.

As long as she does not turn her fire against you, at least.

She has yet to do so intentionally.

...She's set my bedding on fire before.

With all the Fire-types running around, the inns should invest in fireproof bedsheets.

They really should. It would be extremely convenient.
