[The feed first shows a messy room, where a disheveled white-haired man sits at a table and writes furiously. He is surrounded by trinkets of all sorts and books on various subjects, and he does not appear to realize that someone is using his Pokégear.

The camera then turns toward the ground, where a Bayleef is delicately placing a Fire Stone. The Pokégear is placed in front of it, and a Clefairy looks at it for a few seconds before nodding at an unseen Pokémon. Said Pokémon enters the picture, looking at the Fire Stone for a few seconds before touching it. It makes him glow brightly.]

What the- Flare?

[But by the time Cecil turns around and comes closer, Flare the Growlithe is no more. Instead, Flare the Arcanine stands proudly, dwarfing the rest of the Pokémon in the room. He howls once, twice, before walking up to his trainer and licking his face gently.]

...Thank you...

[The feed times out a few minutes later.]

I've often slept in tent or even on the ground over the years, but I have to admit that I look forward to the beds even more than to the food when I reach a city.

This young lady is Leila. She... recently was transferred over to me.

Same. Beds are always preferable, especially after a very long journey on foot. A good night's rest is just as good as a nutritious meal in my opinion.

Beds in general tend to be quite acceptable inthis world, but from what I've seen Goldenrod has the best. In fact, Goldenrod seems to have the best in everything. Why do the other cities accept this?

...Her trainer departed Johto. I'll be taking care of her and of one of her teammates from now on.

I'm not entirely sure. Rural areas tend to be less advanced than urban, but that doesn't seem to be the problem here. It's more like the entirety of this world was planned to facilitate a number of smaller cities and one or two very large city. There's been some theoretical work and a very little bit of practical application of planned living spaces where I'm from, but nothing to this extent.

That's very good of you. Did you know their trainer well?

If this whole world was planned so much, you'd think they would have planned roads that did not involve upsetting a violent tree.

[He nods.] We were old friends, though we did not come from the same original world. From my point of view our meeting was seventeen years ago, and I was admittedly quite surprised when I first saw him on the Pokégear, looking completely unchanged. [He's smiling a little fondly, now.]

I suspect the person in charge of this world has a pretty bad sense of humor.

That must have been a shock. How did you two know each other if you weren't from the same world?

Or a not very well hidden sadistic side.

Seventeen years ago, there was a war between a god of disorder and a goddess of harmony, waged in a Void between worlds. Firion and I were both on Cosmos' side, and we ended up travelling together for some time.

I'm that Cosmos was the Goddess of Harmony? And the Void was a space between the worlds that you and Firion are from?

Exactly. The whole thing was rather complicated, and to be honest I somehow managed to completely forget about it before I came here. ...As a matter of fact, I still have trouble recalling some of the details.

Maybe the gods made you forget? Perhaps there were things that were done or seen that mortals are not supposed to know.

That's possible. In fact, that would explain a lot... I did think... [But he trails off, deep in thought.]

It's presumptuous to judge God, but sometimes I really do wonder if He knows what's best for us...

[Absentmindedly:] It must depend on the god and on the world you come from, but still... Why make us forget allies, enemies, and even powers we obtained?

We are often at the mercy of God, but whether or not He's merciful is another thing altogether. We're made in His design, but we're still pawns.

Cosmos was merciful, at least. She willingly let herself be killed, to give us a chance to win and return home.

She died? Gods can die?

They certainly can. But I do not know if they stay dead. We did restore her realm, after all.

You restored Heaven? Why would God want you forget that?

I don't think it was heaven. The sky was too gray. [His logic does not always have to make sense.] But everyone acted strangely during the Conflict. It's obvious there were details we were never told.

You were not completely informed, and you were made to forget further details after you fought. I don't mean to be rude, but that sounds awfully like someone is deliberately trying to hide something from you.

It did. But when the opposite side openly declares its intention to destroy worlds, you fight without caring about the details much.

True. Hindsight is 20/20 concerning dire situations.

A real war of the worlds...

The whole event was rather nerve-wracking. But I met many friends there, and most of them found themselves here at some point.

Do your friends all remember the conflict or are some of them from before it?
