[The feed first shows a messy room, where a disheveled white-haired man sits at a table and writes furiously. He is surrounded by trinkets of all sorts and books on various subjects, and he does not appear to realize that someone is using his Pokégear.

The camera then turns toward the ground, where a Bayleef is delicately placing a Fire Stone. The Pokégear is placed in front of it, and a Clefairy looks at it for a few seconds before nodding at an unseen Pokémon. Said Pokémon enters the picture, looking at the Fire Stone for a few seconds before touching it. It makes him glow brightly.]

What the- Flare?

[But by the time Cecil turns around and comes closer, Flare the Growlithe is no more. Instead, Flare the Arcanine stands proudly, dwarfing the rest of the Pokémon in the room. He howls once, twice, before walking up to his trainer and licking his face gently.]

...Thank you...

[The feed times out a few minutes later.]

I am far from a scholar. I merely needed to put some of my thoughts and memories on paper. [He looks somewhat sheepish.] I truly should. I think Rosie is planning to force feed me if I put it off any longer.

[His face darkens slightly.] The Arbok is Leila, and the Riolu is currently unnamed. They... they are both my friend Firion's team members, and I'll be their caretaker from now on. [Which would explain everything else, really.]

Oh I see. So, what you're working on is...a journal? _{[Iris nods.]} Yes. I believe that would be best. I-If you would like to continue speaking with me, please don't hesitate to eat as we speak. I won't be bothered.

....O-Oh. _{[Iris knew what that meant. She had been lucky. None of her truly close friends have gone home, but it still hurt whenever one of her new friends left.]} I'm so sorry. I-Is there anything I can do?

Something like that. I'm also trying to find similarities between certain worlds. [He grabs a bag and starts shifting its contents.] I think I have some nuts in there. Dried meat too, if Flare has left me any.

Not much, I'm afraid. But talking together might help keep my mind off it.

That must be interesting. What sort of similarities are you looking for? _{[Iris smiles.]} That should tie you over. Once you're back in Goldenrod, we should go to a restaurant together! It will be my treat.

Names, species, spells... Anything, really. And that would be wonderful. Azalea is rather lacking in interesting cuisine.

Thank you. Spending a day outside walking could probably help too, but being in different cities makes that hard to manage.

Sunny days should be easy to find. [Yes, he just jixed their next five meetings.] I doubt the local winter is much longer than three months.

Their level are different, and they'll need to train some more first. Their battles should be somewhat spread out.

You could try riding on Flare, too. I'll be trying it myself later today.

That's good to hear! The Gym Leader must have to rest her Pokemon often. The poor things...

I'm... relatively certain Azalea's Gym leader is a man, actually.

Oh really? _{[Iris giggles.]} Give him my apologies. I've never met any of the Gym Leaders before.

In this particular case, it's an easy mistake to make.

I'll have to try, first. We'd not want you to fall because of Flare's lack of experience.

Alright. But I'm sure Flare will do just fine. He's been well trained and he's a wonderful Pokemon.

He's rather young, and his voice is still soft. It takes a few seconds to be certain.

But he's still unused to his new strength. He'll need a little practice with it.
