I don't think that was there intention, but it certainly has caused many problems.

How does Baron's government work?

Baron is a monarchy. Not an absolute monarchy, of course, but it is hereditary. We do have a council made up of the noble houses, and the army answers directly to the king.

...And everyone gets along?

Of course not. The nobles want more power, or the throne itself. The people want wealth, even if it depletes our ressources. But all of them want stability more than anything else, so they cause little trouble.

Dear. That sounds frightening! The peace could be destroyed so easily. How on earth do you handle it all?

That's good to hear! Rulers have to show a good example for their people! _{[I have no idea. But, Iris still has no clue the royal family and Cecil's family are one and the same.]}

Too many rulers take their position for granted. They forget their responsibilities, and think only of their pleasure. Luckily, most of the current rulers are good people. [He is, actually. And it's not like he shared that with a lot of people.]

...That's too bad. A ruler should be a fair, honest, and just person. And the people should always come first. Otherwise the kingdom could fall apart!

And if a bad ruler doesn't destroy his kingdom, his people or enemy countries will do it for him.

That's true. I sure Sister Bikini wouldn't like being ruled over by an unjust king.

Would she be the type to rebel openly, or the type to fight back in the shadows?

_{[Iris giggles.]} I think she would go right up to that king and tell him all the things he is doing wrong to his face.

In that case, you'd have to find a way to hold her back. The direct method can get you in trouble.

I'd have to ask for help. Sister Bikini is very hard to hold back. _{[She giggles.]} But...Hazakura is far from Kurain and Sister Bikini hasn't been there in years. I think she's safe.

But at the same time, it means that her experience and ideas are not taken into account when decisions are taken in the village.

That's true. But, even if she lived in Kurain, I don't think she would have much say. Sister Bikini has always admired Kurain, but she wouldn't have much sway there. She isn't a part of the Main Family, and I'm not sure how deep her connection is to the Branch Family either.

Kurain would overlook important advice simply because of a person's bloodline? That might have caused so many missed opportunities...

I'm sure it has. But...I'm sure she would be given more of an audience than I. Even though I am a member of the Branch Family, Sister Bikini would have more sway then I would because of her spiritual power.

The whole system sounds complicated Is it codified, or simply tradition?

It is very much tradition. We have been running things this way for generations.

Sadly, minds are much harder to change than laws.

Yes. That is true. But...the master holds much sway in the village. I'm certain that if a Master came to power that wanted such traditions to disappear, they would be obeyed.
