I know it is considered uncouth to make requests before one's birthday, but I am in need of information.

[Cecil takes a small sip from the glass of juice he's holding before continuing. He's been putting this off for far too long, and his own procrastination bothers him, but that's no reason to look anything less than composed.]

Firstly, I wish to know where I could catch - not buy - any species with the ability Damp. Species recommendations and tales of personal experience with the ability would also be appreciated.

[He sets the glass down, taps it absentmindedly with his right hand. He should have done this months ago, truly.]

Secondly, I am also interested in catching species such as Goldeen, Finneon and Roselia. For those, purchasing or trading for an egg is also an option, if you can offer particularly interesting egg moves. The price is no issue, and neither is acquiring an egg from any of my own Pokémon in return.

[He'll use Gogo, if he has to. Not that he'll publicly admit that.]

Lastly, I would be most thankful if someone was willing to share a recipe for coffee cake... or willing to taste my first few attempt.s I intend to do some baking this week, and I'd rather not see it go to waste. Thank you.

Angry Cryogonals falling from the skies while tied to Combees and Shapedos with tinsel, actually. Though I've no doubt it'd be useful in any cave.

As it happens, Earthquake is one of my reusable TMs. That would ensure it'd know a strong attack immediately... Unless it needs to evolve first, but that's a minor issue. Besides, they surely can learn Ice Beam; that would handily counter most Grass-types.

[She takes a brief moment to allow that mental image to settle into her mind.]

Sir Cecil, you have the strangest stories sometimes, and I'm pretty certain I need to hear the rest of this.

But anyway, yes, I do believe they can learn Ice Beam, so really they're quite an excellent choice for any team. That said, I suppose I should mention positive traits about the other options for comparison's sake. I do know that Chuck's Poliwrath is certainly very strong, and Politoed are, if nothing else, extremely rare. I've never actually seen one outside of the Pokedex. Offensively those are probably both better options than a Quagsire. As for Psyduck...

[She pauses a few moments. Psyducks creep her out.] Errrr, Golduck seems quite versatile?

You've not heard about it yet? It was last December, and certain parts of Celadon were quite damaged by the attack. I suspect Team Rocket's involvement, of course, but as far as I know no one claimed responsibility for that one.

[Such a shame, too. He would have to loved to bill some madman for all those repairs for his yard.]

I do remember my team having to give their all to defeat that Poliwrath. Making such strength part of my team could be a great boon during difficult battles... Then again, potential versatility is also appreciated. And I have so few birds...

Well, at any rate, those are the options available, as far as I'm aware. They all have their advantages, but I still think I'd take Wooper, all things considered.

That madness was over relatively quickly, and only Celadon was affected. That could explain it.

I'll look up Wooper's natural habitat, then; it's been some time since I last saw one, but they should be easy to find.

I'm sure they won't be any trouble to track down. I think they're one of the more common species, at least I see quite a few of them in native trainers' teams. Not so much in those of us visitors, though...

You have not? What a shame. I'd swear the city grows more beautiful with each season that passes.

The Warrior of Light trained one, but that was... very long ago, and Bartz was his starter besides. I've not seen any in Kanto, but returning to Johto is hardly an issue.

Well, I have no reason not to swing by, so maybe I'll fix that soon. I'm going to Pewter next, though. I want to have a look at that museum.

A worthy goal and destination. I must admit I did not spend nearly enough time at the museum, during my last visit. Have you heard of any particularly interesting exhibits at the moment?

Of course. Nearly three years and a half, and it's still considered valid. The expense is even more worth it than any of us believed at first.

It might be easier to ask which exhibits I don't find interesting. The list would be much shorter!

They do say they're lifetime passes. I imagine the only reason the train's even able to stay in business is because of the massive amount they charge up front.

Even that P20000 charge is not so much, when one considers the price of TMs in stores. ...Then again, P20000 is still the equivalent of a few months' rent for a house. Perhaps TMs are the truly overpriced item here.

The latter, of course! At least for the moment. I may end up discovering that a few of the exhibits are less interesting than I hope when I actually get there.

As for the TMs, that's possible... but recall that we have no idea how the things are made. It might be impossible to charge less for them and still make a profit.

True, we've not been told much about their creation; for all we know, the process is both extremely expensive and extremely complicated. Yet if that were the case, why would they bother giving us reusable copies for free? Could they be using us to test them?

[That would be an alarming thought, but as his Return and Earthquake TMs work perfectly well he's not too worried about it.]

They could be prototypes. Or, given that those are usually prizes of some sort, they could be giving them away as publicity stunts. Honestly I think I'd assume the latter.

...That've certainly helped me appreciated the true value of additional attacks and wider type coverage, but considering the money they'd have earned had I been forced to buy individual Return TMs, I'm not sure that's an efficient strategy.

Do you really think most of the people here have a good grasp on economic theory? I hardly understand it, and science and math are my two best subjects!

I would assume that business owners know at least the basics. Then again, the local economy is rather complicated, compared to my world's. The amount of available goods is astronomical, and I'd swear I've not seen farms other than the one north of Olivine.

The amount of available purchasing decisions is a really good point, actually. After all, how many different kinds of TMs are there? If they convince you to buy TMs in general it's possible they have recouped the losses on the reusable ones.

Both too many, and not nearly enough. Still, if I add Rosie's seven to Avenger's six, plus just as many for esuna, and... Goodness, they might have earned a profit from me after all.

Perhaps they're smarter than I gave them credit for, then.

Perhaps it merely means I spend too much on new TMs for my team? ...No, there's no such thing as having too many options in battle.

I wouldn't worry about that. What else would you spend your money on anyway? There's only so much to buy here, and aside from having a decent amount of savings it does no good to sit on your earnings. You may as well do your part to keep the currency circulating.

True; hoarding money like a monster would do no one any good. I suppose that makes all those newly-available TMs a blessing, though I wish I'd not need to travel to buy half of them.

I'd argue that any excuse to see more of this world is a good one, but I guess you've already seen it all, huh? Well, all we can get to at least.

Every centimetre of land that is open to us, yes. I once tried to travel to the west of Viridian, but the route was blocked. The guards allowed no one to pass.
