I know it is considered uncouth to make requests before one's birthday, but I am in need of information.

[Cecil takes a small sip from the glass of juice he's holding before continuing. He's been putting this off for far too long, and his own procrastination bothers him, but that's no reason to look anything less than composed.]

Firstly, I wish to know where I could catch - not buy - any species with the ability Damp. Species recommendations and tales of personal experience with the ability would also be appreciated.

[He sets the glass down, taps it absentmindedly with his right hand. He should have done this months ago, truly.]

Secondly, I am also interested in catching species such as Goldeen, Finneon and Roselia. For those, purchasing or trading for an egg is also an option, if you can offer particularly interesting egg moves. The price is no issue, and neither is acquiring an egg from any of my own Pokémon in return.

[He'll use Gogo, if he has to. Not that he'll publicly admit that.]

Lastly, I would be most thankful if someone was willing to share a recipe for coffee cake... or willing to taste my first few attempt.s I intend to do some baking this week, and I'd rather not see it go to waste. Thank you.

I wouldn't worry about that. What else would you spend your money on anyway? There's only so much to buy here, and aside from having a decent amount of savings it does no good to sit on your earnings. You may as well do your part to keep the currency circulating.

True; hoarding money like a monster would do no one any good. I suppose that makes all those newly-available TMs a blessing, though I wish I'd not need to travel to buy half of them.

I'd argue that any excuse to see more of this world is a good one, but I guess you've already seen it all, huh? Well, all we can get to at least.

Every centimetre of land that is open to us, yes. I once tried to travel to the west of Viridian, but the route was blocked. The guards allowed no one to pass.

Isn't that the one that leads to the so-called "Indigo Plateau"? The place where the Elite Four are supposed to be challenged?

That's right. I had hoped that my sixteen badges would grant me passage there, but that was not the case.

Yeah, I'd heard the same thing from Riku now that I think about it. I guess gathering all sixteen is just a goal in and of itself, then.

It's certainly a task that takes time and hard work, though it'd be more impressive if all types were represented. Then again, I can hardly blame them for not having a Fairy-type Gym.

They needed to leave out one of the seventeen types we knew about when they first arrived, though. I mean, it's eight gyms per region, after all, so that only adds up to sixteen. Maybe one of the Elite Four trains dark-types, to make up for it.

Not one; two. The Viridian Gym might give out the Earth badge, but the leader's team uses no specific type.

That's a strong possibility, if they intend to test trainers properly. Three members with type overlaps are more than enough, at least until they catch and train enough fairies.

Oh. Well, at least I know about that in advance, now.

I guess that leader's probably intended to be the last one, then. A sort of final exam before the Elite Four.

I believe he is, yes. It was my second-to-last badge, but I was battling the Elite team that mattered little. However, his regular team has the highest levels in Kanto. Considering Viridian's proximity to Pallet, I'd hardly call that fair.

[He feels for the poor young trainers who attempt to win that badge with their level thirty Wartortle, truly.]

It's also very close to the Plateau, though, so it's kind of an appropriate place. If you're just looking at the Kanto side of things, taking him on is going full circle before your final challenge.

[Also she has little sympathy for anyone who takes on a gym without doing any research whatsoever about it.]

...That would be a more convincing argument if we were allowed to travel to the Plateau after defeating him. Then again, perhaps that was the case, before so many of us arrived and invaded.

[All that information about the existence of the Elite Four has to come from somewhere, after all.]

That's kind of my assumption. Why the Elite Four closed down is still a mystery, but it could be because they're trying to either adapt to our arrival, hunt down whatever is causing us to be brought here, or both. I don't know them well enough to be sure if their various skillsets would work for either of those goals.

...It's been almost five years, and sometimes I'd swear we are barely a third of what we used to be. If they are still adapting, I fear we'll never have the chance to challenge them properly. Though if they are trying to explain our presence instead, I can understand why they've made little progress.

This world doesn't seem to adapt very quickly to changes outside of its own paradigm. I have to wonder how many changes they've even gone through before we arrived. If you think about it like that it's not really surprising that it's taking them so long. Disappointing, yes.

From what I understand, Lavender Tower's shift from cemetery to radio tower happened not long before we first arrived... But that's not exactly a wise or positive change, is it. Perhaps they would adapt to us more quickly if there was a financial incentive.

Perhaps, but given that all the money we have, we're getting from them, it's academic.

... One other thing. You mentioned in your message that your birthday's coming up? Or did I misunderstand that?

It is, yes. My fifth birthday in this realm; some would say that's five too many, but I've become used to celebrating without my usual guests. Besides, Pokémon can make any event lively.

I sort of agree with those theoretical complainers, but... Happy Birthday, regardless.

Like I know how to tell the difference in human ages once they get past the child stage. You could be anywhere from your mid-twenties to eighty for all I know.

...I can tell you that I'm not either of those ages, but as I'm also not fully human I'm unlikely to be a good reference, when it comes to aging.
