When I first awoke in New Bark Town, four years ago, I was... unwell. This whole world's very existence confused me, and so did my presence in it. The relatively weak and harmless-looking monsters were also a shock. Had it not been for Rosie's sweetness, I surely would have attempted to fight her. You could say that day was very unpleasant, though still far from the worse I've had.

[The background noise: a liquid hitting glass. The view: a quick flash of a wine bottle in a corner.]

And yet... when I finally managed to use the Pokégear, I was contacted by friends I'd not seen in seventeen years. Friends I'd not remembered in seventeen years, and that I would not have expected to ever see again even if I'd kept those memories. I also met kind people, good people, who made my first few weeks here much easier than they would otherwise have been. All have been gone for years, now, but I still find myself thinking of them fondly. Therefore... you could say that day was a good day, too.

[The action, unseen and barely heard: Cecil making a silent toast to all those people, and downing that glass before setting it back on the table.]

...Well! Now that I've shared my first day experience, it's only fitting that you do the same. Surely you all have interesting stories to share.

Hell? What a harsh thing to say to a newcomer. Then again, some arrivals do seem to sincerely believe this is their new afterlife; that person might have thought they were telling you the truth. Did your friend and teacher return to Cherrygrove or Violet to meet you?

I would've believe it since I was in the middle of a big [Hm...] battle with demons around.

Yeah, my friend did. We met up in Cherrygrove, since he was in...Violet at the time, I think? Yeah, Violet.

That would indeed give the claim some credibility.

That's not surprising. violet was our main hub for a very long time.

Definitely. Fortunately, that battle's resolved already.

[And he got his controlled demons for society's benefit, yay!]

How did that happen? No one went down to Azalea for a long time? I know that's before we can get to Goldenrod after Sudowoodo moved and people can use Fly more.

Many trainers had not yet acquired the Zephyr badge, and still needed to train. Also, new arrivals were much more common and numerous at the time; there were those who stayed in Violet to quickly meet loved ones if needed.

That make sense. Especially with more people arriving, since it's probably hard to set out when your friend or family might pop up before you leave for Azalea.

[At least that's how things were when luck's against you.]

It certainly is. When Bartz, Tidus and Cloud all decided to arrive within the same month, all our travel plans for weeks found themselves interrupted.

[And then Cloud just never managed to reach them, and then Tidus disappeared one morning.]

I can see how that went. I haven't dealt with that, since my friends' arrival have a pretty decent gap between them.

[Until everyone but him leaves.]

In a way, I like that people doesn't pop up as frequently as back then. We can still do our plans and probably get ready for whenever new people comes in.

Unless, of course, we happen to be travelling or staying in Kanto at the time. Should anyone I know arrive tomorrow, it'd take me quite a long time to join them.

...Yeah, that would be a thing.

Even with Fly and the ferry between New Bark and Pallet, that's still a lot of time and distance to cover.

Luckily, most of the people I'd expect to come could easily survive a few days on the road while I travel. But for those who wish young children with no survival skills would join them...

[He's really thinking of toddlers and babies, though.]

Some of my friends can survive out in the road, especially when we don't have to worry too much about getting supplies in New Bark.

[Seeing people fighting and stealing rations? Not fun at all.]

Of course, there's always a few older people who don't know how to deal with camping, but like you said, they can travel with others who do.

Most people do seem to learn the basics of camping out quickly, thankfully. Otherwise, there'd be no room left in Cherrygrove.

A lot of the basics are common sense, and learning how to ration the supplies. Plus, the promise of being a big city is a pretty good motivator.

That, and often the money that comes with the further Gyms and better employment opportunities.

As well as finding Pokemon that can only be found in certain areas. Maybe the Breeding Centre doesn't have it or any particular breeder doesn't own one yet.

That's also a good reason, especially since mysterious egg deliveries are infrequent and offer random results.

Speaking of mysterious egg deliveries, it's been a while since we have one, right?

[He's pretty fond it it, when his first few Pokemon was a result of one.]

But it would be great to see more of the less common Pokemon around.

...You're right, it has been. Perhaps the next will be this Christmas, and bring us some of the rarer species? That would fit the usual pattern.

Christmas is a pretty good day for mysterious eggs. Otherwise, we might have to wait until possibly Easter because of the egg connections.

There's a connection between Easter and eggs? That would explain those old egg hunts some trainers used to organize...

Yep! Dunno the exact history, but Easter's a pretty popular holiday back home. A lot of people would give and hunt down eggs, usually chocolate ones.

That must have pleased the children, but it's not nearly as useful as hunting down Pokémon eggs.

Especially when they're sweeter than, I don't know, using decorated boiled eggs. It wouldn't match up to actual Pokemon eggs, but it's pretty close.

And are they as large as true Pokémon eggs? I can only imagine the number of cavities that would follow.
