[A Rising Badge, carefully turned over and over in a man's hand, obviously being inspected from all its angles. This is the image coming from the Cecil-cam, today.]

A year, to the day. That's more than acceptable for the first part of an adventure. Or perhaps I should say that obtaining this last badge is an excellent way to celebrate my first year in this world?

[Cecil's hand finally closes around the badge, and he brings the Pokégear up to look at the sky instead.]

Would anyone know why the professor cal- No, nevermind. It's not important at the moment. Badges and anniversaries should both be celebrated. If anyone in Blackthorn wishes to join me, I'll pay for the meal and drinks.

It took place during the last weekend of October. We woke one morning, and the whole world was... warped. The same screechy, discordant music played everywhere. Everything was blocky and square-shaped with only a handful of colors to be seen. Journeys that normally take weeks could be completed in less than a day. The locals started repeating a single phrase over and over, our Pokémon lost all signs of individuality... Only we were left unaffected. It lasted until the first minute of November.

In which the effects then just vanished?

Completely vanished. Well, almost.

What remained?

...Candy. Enough to last for a few days or weeks, depending on your appetite.

Fun. And how long did the candy last for you?

Three days, but we were six and each had a team to feed. Food is eaten faster when shared.

Truth. They often say it tastes better, as well.

I find that candy has a nice taste in most circumstances.

If you like candy, I suppose.

It's not my favorite, but I like it well enough. Do you dislike sweets, then?

I wouldn't say I dislike it-- dislike is a very strong word, you know.

As far as personal tastes go, it's still relatively mild.

Mm, my preferences simply lie elsewhere.

And where would that be?

What are your thoughts on spicy foods?

Quite tasty, but I would not eat it every day.

It's true that there aren't that many staple foods that are naturally spicy.

The spices necessary can also be quite expensive, though this does not seem to be a problem here.

It's also rather interesting to think where these spices around here must've come from.

Perhaps other countries care more about agriculture than Pokémon? Unless certain species have spice-like growths...

Are there other countries, here?

There must be. Too many Pokémon are not indigenous to Johto.

Mm, exploring those countries... I wonder what's stopping us.

The lack of long distance transportation, if nothing else. No Pokémon could fly over an ocean without resting.
