It sounds like they're really meant to get into fights. Have you ever run into a specific kind of Pokemon that doesn't?

You mean a non-combative species as a whole? No. But individual Pokémon sometimes prefer peace and quiet. Rosie felt as such, before we caught Avenger; a healthy rivalry changed her mind.

What kind of Pokemon is she?

A Clefable, but she was a Cleffa at the time. They make excellent fighters, after a few weeks' worth of training.

I had Cleffa recommended to me. Maybe I'll try to find one myself, especially since Jigglypuffs apparently mug you.

...I've never had such an experience with Jigglypuffs before, but I'd not be surprised if there were particularly wild herds out there. That said, I'd suggest looking for a Cleffa egg and staying away from wild Clefairies; they enjoy stealing and drinking cooking sherry.

It's starting to sound like all the cute things here have a really wild side.

Not only the cute ones, I assure you. Even the cocoons will happily tackle other creatures to unconsciousness if they've been properly raised. Calling any local species 'wild' is an understatement.

How exactly does a cocoon tackle?

By moving forward with a speed and a liveliness that you'd not expect from a supposedly immobile insect, which is admittedly not too difficult to achieve.

Somehow that seems stranger than the lightning and fire dogs that are around here.

Tackling cocoons only scratch the surface of this world's strangeness, I assure you. Especially for breeders; I don't envy them.

What do breeders deal with?

The exact species combinations that can lead to viable eggs, and the knowledge that their duty is to deliberately encourage them.

Let me guess: there are some unexpected matches.

Many would say that 'some' is a terrible understatement, in this situation.

I have a feeling I'm going to learn sooner or later.

You'll be safe if you are very careful and catch Pokémon of a single gender, or species that are completely incompatible. But that is more difficult than it looks.

[ladywithnovoice]

Because there's so many different types, right? And I'm not sure if there's a way to tell what they are until I catch them.

There is, but you'd still have to either remember the egg group of each of your Pokémon, or reverify it every time you wish to catch another.

With that sort of thing, it sounds as though people would find themselves with a lot of accidental Pokemon.

They sometimes do. I remember previous sales that involved dozens of unplanned eggs.

I'll just have to be extra careful then.

If you wish to greatly reduce the change of eggs, avoid Ditto. Breeding is its specialty.
