[This seems to be all he has to offer today... until, for an instant, something dark flashes in his eyes, and the Gear goes flying. The last thing that can be heard before it turns off is the sound of breaking glass and splintering wood.]

I did, though that world was much less pleasant than this one. Yet it offered a better explanation for our presence.

Huh. I guess I never really stopped and thought about the possibility that there would be other worlds out there like this one. Err...assuming it functioned on the same principle of pulling random people from random universes.

[Because he's been pulled into another world before but it wasn't really the same thing. There was no multi-universal mass-kidnapping.]

We came only from a dozen worlds or so, and they had too much in common to be random choices. ...In fact, I don't think you could say it was pulling random people, either.

Everyone involved was a strong fighter, at the very least. Not only that, but the people who were pulled from the same world had all had antagonistic relationships. It was too convenient to be random.

The point was to help two gods fight their war.

So what, it was some kind of team bonding exercise? You said they took people who didn't get along with each other, right?

Pairs of people, one for each god. Perhaps they believed that we'd be more willing to kill each other if we'd already tried.
