[There is a Gyarados on the screen. Bouncing. Up and down and up and down and- You get the picture. There might also be a squealing Clefable somewhere on top of said Gyarados, but with all that bouncing it might be hard to tell.]

I was already familar with TMs, but that move tutor also knew a surprising number of abilities, compared to the one in Ilex Forest. Does anyone have any interesting attacks to recommend, machine- or tutor-taught? I find myself hesitating between a few of them, and additional opinions would be appreciated.

[Riding a bouncing Gyarados must be pretty fun, because Cecil's Umbreon and Blissey are now trying to jump on.]

Move tutor?

[Cecil comes back to answer after a few seconds, Edges in his arms.]

Move tutor. Apparently, they travel all over Johto to teach new attacks to Pokémon, except for a few that stay in particular cities. There was one resting near the Pokémart who offered to teach Seifer a Flying-type move, and then...

[He waves a hand towards Seifer. Who is bouncing. Again.]

Really? I thought TMs and HMs were the only things that could teach pokemon like that.

How did you find out about them?

I met one when I first crossed the Ilex Forest, in January. That one only had a single attack to teach, but it turned out to be moderately useful.

... It's bouncing...

I think he likes his new attack. The others certainly seem to appreciate it.

[Except Edges, who is now grumbling in Cecil's arms.]

It doesn't make him tired...?

Not yet, but I've no doubt it will once the novelty wears off. It's been a long time since he last learned a new attack.

Huh, I didn't know it was possible for a Gyarados to bounce... [Ritz is looking at her Gyarados with speculation written pretty clearly on her face.]

They do not learn that particular attack naturally, but it is possible for one of those travelling move tutors to it to teach them. It has the advantage of using their Flying-type, too.

Move tutors, huh? I can't say I've looked into that all that much...

My team knows a few tutor-moves I could tell you about if you like, sir.

It mostly happened by coincidence. I was not expecting a friendly sitting man to have such an ability.

Uh-huh, there're a few I've tried and liked. Princess learned Aqua Tail from a tutor, and it's a pretty strong water move. Bolt knows ThunderPunch, and I know there're ones for fire and ice also, it's a solid attack. And then Zephyr knows one called Draco Meteor that's really strong, I like it because he doesn't take any recoil damage from it, unlike some other moves with high attack power.

I've always just picked out a move that's outside their usual set when it comes to tutors... I had Hina learn a flying type attack, while Sony learned a rock type. They're kind of situational, but it's nice to have them up their sleeve if you need it!

Draco Meteor?

[Good old meteor spells, how he missed you.]

I'd heard of the other two before, but not that one. I suppose its name implies that it is a Dragon-type move? That could be rather useful for Kayne and Mist... Yet at the same time, they might be better served by an attack strong against their weaknesses.

And other trainers never expect them. Who would have thought an innocent Delibird could know Seismic Toss? Or that an Arcanine could make good use of Aerial Ace?

Indeed he is. It turns out that Bounce is the name of the only Flying-type attack a Gyarados can learn.

[ Giggling. ] It really odd to see Gyarados bounce like that.

But it looks really fun.

It does indeed, though I suspect Edges would now disagree. I wonder if they sell Gyarados-sized saddles and reins?

I don't really know--- but it never hurts to ask.

Oh my! Are they going to be okay?

Hopefully they do. It'd give him a way to play with my other Pokémon with no rish to them, for once.
