[Cecil can seen, standing in the middle of a Pokémart. A Pokémart that is not Violet's. He's supposed to be in Violet. Why isn't he in Violet?]

Mahogany has what is quite possibly the worst selection of souvenirs I've even seen, and that includes the one time when Palom wanted me to choose between a pig and a toad who turned out to be his classmates.

[Why is he in Mahogany? Well, obviously for the badge. How did he even get there? You'd be surprised by the flying speed of a Dragonite. When did he get there? ...Really, really surprised.]

Rosa, Rydia, Kain. Would you rather receive a candy bar, a postcard, or a pair of Magikarp-shaped earrings? Or a fishing rod. They seem to love their fishing rods.

[He starts looking around with little interest in his eyes.]

I'd offer to bring back dinner instead, but by the time I return to Violet it'll certainly be cold. Please don't wait for me if I take too long.

Right. We merely need to know how to find what's essential in the first place.

Or by closing our eyes, we'd get rid of the excessive noise. Makes it easier to see what's really there, I'd think.

It's rather necessary, some times. This world can be rather noisy.

All that visual noise. Would it be interesting if the world was black and white instead?

...It'd be rather sad, I think.

[a chuckle, here] You're right, it would be.

Everything is prettier with shades of gray, anyway.

And shades of blue and red and everything in between.

I wonder if there's a rainbow pokemon.

...The bird in Ecruteak's legend is said to be rainbow-colored.

Ah, the one that revived those other pokemon?

That one, though it's obviously not rainbow-shaped.

Oh, I'd beg to differ. Nobody ever specified what sort of bird it was-- if it were a turkey, the tail would make a fairly legit rainbow.

Do you think there exists a picture of it?

I don't see why not. I'd actually go look for that sort of thing in the children's section over at the libraries.

They might indeed have that much, though they hold very little useful information.

You'd be surprised. If you're looking for the hypothetical, your best bet would be to look for it in the place where everything's a hypothetical.

If there really is a powerful pokemon like that, there might not be a research document on it, but there would be legends-- and fairytales.

...And with enough legends, we might begin to see patterns, which would most likely be the closest we'd have to factual information. Especially if said legends were not inspired by others...

And with patterns come a key. Of course, this is all but hypothetical.

With our luck, all the legends will be completely contradictory.

Never let it be said that even contradictory legends do not hold a single grain of truth.

But they obscure what that grain of truth is, or even offer misdirection.

I wouldn't say obscure. Mislead, maybe-- and not always intentionally, because sometimes, the truth is hard to understand. You can't blame the whims of children for what we cannot see.

Not the whims of children, perhaps, but those who find them unworthy of the true story.

Contrary. People seem to be fond of telling children the truth, on account that they don't think they can understand it.

That always struck me as a particularly unwise idea, but then again most of the children I know are naturally understanding.
